God is Faithful

His Faithfulness, Not Our Abilities, Sustains Us

SCRIPTURE:
1 Corinthians 1:8-9 NKJV - who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

OBSERVATION:
The church at Corinth faced many issues that needed correction, but Paul wanted to remind them that God is faithful.

  • God was faithful in the grace that was given because of Jesus (vs 4)
  • God was faithful in enriching their lives with speech and knowledge of Him (vs 5-6)
  • God was faithful to give them spiritual gifts that would guide and encourage them (vs 7)
  • God was faithful to strengthen them in their walk (vs 8)
  • God was faithful to make them blameless, that they may see the day of Jesus Christ (vs 8)

God’s faithfulness is what keeps you and me, not our own abilities. The Corinthians prided themselves on their wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, as well as their use of the gifts. They had all of this, yet they were divided, lacking the same understanding (mind), the same convictions, and the same speech. They were a Church operating in the gifts (not because they were special, but because God blesses), yet they still showed great immaturity. That is why Paul would write this book.

APPLICATION:
Just because you have gifts, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding does not mean you are mature. These are all things we can hold onto and think are signs of maturity, when they are really gifts given because God is faithful.

Our maturity does not come from within ourselves, but because God is faithful to confirm and make us blameless.

Confirm means to make firm, establish, and ensure. God is faithful to do this in our lives. The question is, are we willing?

Blameless means that one cannot be called into account, unreproved, unaccused. This was and is the work of Jesus. By His Spirit, we are being set apart (positionally complete, practically still being worked out).

Gifts, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding are not always signs of maturity. But God is faithful, and He will perfect us. Trust Him, allow Him to sanctify you (set you apart), make you more like Him, and watch how the gifts, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding are used for HIS glory, not ours.

GOD IS FAITHFUL!

PRAYER:
Thank you, Jesus, for the work of sanctification that you are doing in me to make me more like You. Thank you, Father, for being faithful. Where would I be without YOU!
God's faithfulness — not our gifts, knowledge, or wisdom — is what confirms, matures, and makes us blameless in Christ.
