Kind, Compassionate, Forgiving
Walk the Way You've Been Treated
SCRIPTURE:
Ephesians 4:32 CSB - And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.
OBSERVATION:
At the beginning of chapter 4, Paul urges the Ephesians to “walk worthy of the calling you have received.” In other words, just as you have been given grace, you should walk in it. Grace changes everything—including our old sinful nature. We are new creations in Christ, and our lives should reflect that transformation.
Just as Paul begins the chapter with encouragement, he closes it in the same spirit. He exhorts us to be:
Kind, Compassionate, Forgiving
APPLICATION:
Kind - In the same way that Jesus was kind to us, His kindness—then and now—leads us to repentance. If we, as followers of Christ, are not kind, we are not walking in a manner worthy of the calling we have received.
Compassionate - Another word for compassionate is tender-hearted or long-suffering. Jesus demonstrated all three. He was compassionate toward our failings, tender-hearted toward our inability to fulfill the law, and long-suffering—even today—toward our sin that so easily entangles us. If we, as followers of Christ, are not compassionate, we are not walking in a manner worthy of our calling.
Forgiving - Forgiveness means pardoning an offender, letting go of resentment, and releasing the wrongdoer from any punitive or moral debt. It’s a decision to move forward without holding on to anger or bitterness. The Greek word for “forgiveness” can mean to let go or to release. God has forgiven you and me in Christ. Jesus paid the penalty for our sin so that we can receive forgiveness freely.

God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven thee. Get hold of that grand truth, and hold it, though all the devils in hell roar at thee. If we, as followers of Christ, are unforgiving, we are not walking in a manner worthy of the calling we have received.
When Paul calls you and me to walk worthy of the calling by which we have been called—Grace—he means to walk as the new man, not merely claiming to follow Christ but demonstrating it through Kindness, Compassion, and Forgiveness.
PRAYER:
Jesus, thank You for the kindness You continually show me—kindness that leads me to repentance. Thank You for Your compassion, tender-heartedness, and long-suffering toward my shortcomings and sin. Thank You for Your forgiveness—as far as the east is from the west, so far have You removed my transgressions and remembered them no more. May I become more like You: kind, compassionate, and forgiving.

Kindness, compassion, and forgiveness aren't suggestions for nice people — they're the natural overflow of a life that has truly grasped how much it has been forgiven.
