When God Removes What We Cannot

SCRIPTURE:
Mark 16:2-4 NKJV - Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they said among themselves, "Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?" But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away--for it was very large.

OBSERVATION:
For Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome, the day after Passover and the Crucifixion was not glorious as it is for us. They went knowing that Jesus was dead and buried in a tomb. That early morning, as the sun was rising, their concern was, “Who will roll the stone away?” But to their surprise, the stone was rolled away, and Jesus was alive!

The stone was not rolled away for Jesus’ sake but for ours. In His glorified body, Jesus could walk through walls (John 20:19). No grave could hold Him, not even a large stone rolled in front of the tomb. That stone was rolled away so they could see that He was indeed alive!

Could you imagine what it must have been like for these three women, heartbroken and filled with grief, as they made their way to embalm the body of Jesus, only to arrive at the tomb and find He was not there? As the angel spoke, “You seek Jesus of Nazareth. He is not here. He is risen!” Their hearts must have rejoiced. Their resurrection day had turned from mourning into joy in an instant!

APPLICATION:
What is the stone that needs to be removed from your life today? What is it in your life that, like these three women, you would ask, “Who can roll away the stone, for it is VERY large?”
The answer is Jesus! Our sin, great or small, was, is, and will be forgiven! All we must do is come to Him. He is alive! He paid the penalty for sin, so we can be forgiven and restored.
Today, if you feel like the Rolling Stones—can’t find that peace and satisfaction—come to Jesus! He is still rolling stones away! Even the ones we think are impossible. If He can rise from the dead, He can move the stone of sin in your life!

PRAYER:
Thank you, Jesus, for rolling the stones of sin away from my life. Even though some still seem great in my life, they are nothing to You. Thank you. I don’t need to live in guilt and shame; I live in grace and peace because of Your death, burial, and resurrection.
The stones we cannot move are already rolled away by the risen Christ—turning our fear, grief, and impossibility into joy and hope.
