Jesus is Greater than Discouragement

Not Partially Saved — Saved to the Uttermost

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 7:25-27 CSB - Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, since he always lives to intercede for them. For this is the kind of high priest we need: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. He doesn't need to offer sacrifices every day, as high priests do -- first for their own sins, then for those of the people. He did this once for all time when he offered himself.

OBSERVATION:
In Hebrews 7, the author proclaims a profound truth:

Jesus is greater than the High Priest.

He is not only greater—He is eternal. Like Melchizedek, Jesus has neither beginning nor end. He does not come from a corruptible, earthly priestly line. Instead, He stands apart: perfect, unchangeable, and forever interceding.

Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, since he always lives to intercede for them.

Jesus was able to save completely. Unlike the priests in the line of Aaron, who offered daily sacrifices—first for their own sins and then for the people’s—Jesus offered Himself once for all.

He doesn't need to offer sacrifices every day, as high priests do -- first for their own sins, then for those of the people. He did this once for all time when he offered himself.
Oh, this makes the sacrifice of Christ so blessed and glorious! They dragged the bullocks and they drove the sheep to the altar; they bound the calves with cords, even with cords to the altar’s horn; but not so was it with the Christ of God. None did compel him to die; he laid down his life voluntarily, for he had power to lay it down, and to take it again. – Charles Spurgeon
Because Jesus is greater than the High Priest, we now live under complete, lasting forgiveness—a salvation that cannot be shaken.

APPLICATION:
Jesus, our High Priest, is:
  • Holy
  • Innocent
  • Undefiled
  • Separated from sinners
  • Exalted above the heavens

Therefore, we are not partially saved—we are completely saved.

In the NKJV, Hebrews 7:25 says: “He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him…”
The verb “to save” is used absolutely, which means that Christ will save in the most comprehensive sense; he saves from all that humanity needs saving from. – Leon Morris
We are saved not from but to the uttermost.
Our blessed Lord is interceding for us, but He is in no sense appeasing God. All that God’s holy Being and righteous government could demand was once for all, completely and forever, satisfied at the Cross. – William Newell
Because Jesus is our Great High Priest, we no longer strive for forgiveness—it is already ours. We walk in it and live out of it.

PRAYER:
Jesus, thank You for the complete forgiveness You have given me. Thank You that You save to the uttermost—even a wretch like me. May my life reflect such a marvelous, overwhelming forgiveness. Shape me into Your image, Lord—so that I may walk in holiness, live in victory, and reflect Your glory to a world that desperately needs You.
Jesus didn't offer a daily, temporary sacrifice like the priests before Him — He offered Himself once for all, and that means your salvation is complete, permanent, and held secure by a High Priest who never stops interceding for you.
