Greater Than Our Temptation

He Faced It First So You Wouldn't Face It Alone
SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 2:18 CSB - For since he himself has suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.
OBSERVATION:
In Hebrews 2, the writer reveals a powerful truth: Jesus is greater than our humanity. He was fully God and fully man, and because of that, He was able to suffer, sympathize, and ultimately make a way for us to find help in our temptations.
Hebrews 4:15-16 CSB - For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin. Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.
Jesus was tempted in every way—yet without sin. That’s not a distant, unrelatable victory. It’s an invitation. He doesn’t shame us for our temptations—He strengthens us through them. The question is: Will we turn to Him or try to face them alone?
David Guzik comments on whether Jesus' temptation was truly real.

Some wonder if Jesus was really tempted. After all, since He was God (they reason), He could not sin — so His temptation could not be real. The writer to the Hebrews insists that not only was Jesus’ temptation real, but it was so real that He suffered under it. – David Guzik
Through His suffering, we can find strength. Will we take it?
APPLICATION:
Whatever temptation you’re facing today, don’t try to overcome it alone. You can’t—and you were never meant to. Temptation is stronger than we are, but Jesus is stronger than temptation.
When we fail and when we feel we cannot hold up, come to Jesus for strength to endure, grace when we fail, and mercy to overcome.
1 Corinthians 10:13 CSB - No temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to bear it.
Come boldly to the throne of grace. There you'll find:
Let Jesus be your source—not just for forgiveness, but for power.
PRAYER:
Jesus, thank You for facing temptation on my behalf—and for overcoming it. Thank You that I can boldly approach Your throne to find grace, strength, and mercy. Help me stop striving in my own strength. Let me remain near Your throne of grace, where victory is found—not in myself, but in You.

- Strength to endure
- Grace when you fall
- Mercy to rise again
Let Jesus be your source—not just for forgiveness, but for power.

Jesus didn't overcome temptation to make you feel inferior— He overcame it to make a way for you to find strength, grace, and mercy exactly when you need it most.
