Don’t Grow Weary
Fruitless Seasons Are Not Finished Seasons
SCRIPTURE:
2 Thessalonians 3:13 CSB - But as for you, brothers and sisters, do not grow weary in doing good.
OBSERVATION:
How often do we grow weary in doing good? I think the answer may surprise you and me. Growing weary does not happen overnight. It takes time. Often, we grow weary when we feel there is no fruit, or when we perceive there is none. But is this a good sign or a reason to grow weary? I have to admit, in my own mind, I often see it that way.
The Greek phrase for grow weary means to be utterly spiritless, wearied out, and exhausted.
The church in Thessalonica could have easily given up. It appears they were under persecution, had been led to believe they had missed the rapture and were facing the wrath of God, and that many had stopped doing the work of the Lord.
We often feel this way as well. But we must remember that our feelings often mislead us, while God never will. He is faithful, even when we don’t always see it.

There are many excuses one might make for allowing weariness in doing good, but they should all be rejected.
- “It takes so much effort to keep doing good” — but you will extend effort towards the things of the world.
- “It takes so much self-denial to keep doing good” — but it is worth it when we consider the reward.
- “It just brings me persecution to do good” — but your persecutions are nothing compared to that which others have suffered.
- “People don’t respond, and there are little results when I do good” — but remember how slow you were to respond to Jesus Christ.
- “It doesn’t earn much gratitude when I do good” — but God sends many blessings even to those who do not thank or appreciate Him.” – David Guzik
APPLICATION:
Don’t give up! God is on our side. He is with us and will see us through. That family member, friend, ministry, job, or calling has been given to you to minister to or serve. He will see you through.
Habakkuk 3:17-19 CSB - Though the fig tree does not bud and there is no fruit on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though the flocks disappear from the pen and there are no herds in the stalls, yet I will celebrate in the LORD; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation! The LORD my Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like those of a deer and enables me to walk on mountain heights!
Let us be determined, even if WE don’t see the fruit. He does, and He is STILL working because we are still here!
Galatians 6:9 CSB - Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don't give up.
At the proper time, God will do it… Don’t give up! The world needs the Gospel. It’s not too late!
PRAYER:
Jesus, change my despair into hope. When I feel like giving up, remind me not to. When I don’t see the fruit on the vine, cause my heart to rejoice in You, because You are still working! May the growing weariness be turned into rested hope for Your kingdom and glory.

Don't measure God's work by what you can see — He is still moving, still faithful, and the harvest is coming at exactly the right time if you don't give up.
